QI CHINA MARTIAL ARTS and EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

Qi China is committed to the fullest support of the aims and objectives of the Commission for Racial Equality, the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Disability Rights Commission.

We share their vision of a multicultural society in which equality of opportunity and freedom from discrimination on grounds of race, age, disability, religion or belief, gender and sexual orientation are the norm and every member of society’s natural right. We are committed to working with these bodies in such fields as survey, keeping abreast of policy initiatives and enacting their conclusions.

Qi China enthusiastically promotes and provides Equal Opportunities in the classes it runs, the services it provides, and through its membership and influential representation on national and international Governing Bodies.

Why do we support Equal Opportunities?

Equal opportunities are a matter of rights and responsibilities which benefit society as a whole as well as the individual citizen. Discrimination on grounds of race, age, disability, religion or belief, gender and sexual orientation is still far too common: a negative phenomenon which harms society by causing alienation, fear, anger, loss of potential and a sense of powerlessness and associated social and psychological problems.

Martial arts are renowned for their positive practical role in bringing together those of different race, religion and gender and uniting them in the positive learning environment of the training class and national and international competitions.

Traditional Chinese Martial Arts in particular teach their practitioners the social and psychological benefits of self-discipline, competition with themselves rather than with others, and a wholesome sense of self-confidence and personal accomplishment; the very building blocks and benefits of Equal Opportunities themselves.

Traditional Chinese martial arts encourage practitioners to develop a wholesome sense of being at peace with themselves, which consequently enhances the way they relate to others; in this way directly providing the ideal means for promoting and realising Equal Opportunities.
